Description

Brown Sugar Glazed Scalloped Sweet Potatoes are a delicious side dish made with thinly sliced sweet potatoes, melted butter, warm cinnamon, and a rich brown sugar glaze. Baked until tender with beautifully caramelized edges, this easy sweet potato casserole is perfect for family dinners, special occasions, and cozy meals.

Ingredients

Scale

3 medium sweet potatoes (about 2 pounds), washed and thinly sliced

1/3 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 tablespoons maple syrup

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly and slice them into thin, even rounds, approximately 1/8 inch thick.

In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, black pepper, and vanilla extract. Stir until well blended.

Arrange the sweet potato slices vertically in overlapping rows inside the prepared baking dish.

Pour the brown sugar glaze evenly over the sweet potatoes, making sure the slices are well coated.

Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Remove the foil and continue baking for another 20 to 25 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are fork-tender and the glaze is bubbling and caramelized.

Remove from the oven and allow the dish to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

Use a mandoline slicer to achieve evenly sliced sweet potatoes for consistent cooking.

Choose medium-sized sweet potatoes with similar diameters for a beautiful layered presentation.

For a deeper caramel flavor, substitute dark brown sugar for light brown sugar.

If the glaze becomes too thick during baking, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of warm water.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Reheat in a 350°F oven until warmed through.
