Ingredients
For the Chocolate Cake
1¾ cups all-purpose flour
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1½ cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
½ cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1½ teaspoons baking powder
1½ teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup hot water
For the Creamy Caramel Filling
1 cup thick caramel sauce
½ cup sweetened condensed milk
For the Chocolate Frosting
1½ cups cold heavy whipping cream
¼ cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Toffee Crunch Topping
1 cup crushed toffee candy pieces
½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
¼ cup caramel sauce for drizzling
¼ cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Step 2: Prepare the Chocolate Cake Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
Gradually pour in the hot water while stirring until the batter becomes smooth. The batter will be thin, which helps create a moist chocolate cake.
Step 3: Bake the Chocolate Cake
Divide the chocolate cake batter evenly between the prepared pans.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
Allow the cakes to cool in their pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire cooling rack. Let them cool completely.
Step 4: Prepare the Creamy Caramel Filling
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the thick caramel sauce and sweetened condensed milk.
Stir until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy. Refrigerate briefly if necessary to help the filling thicken.
Step 5: Make the Chocolate Whipped Cream Frosting
Pour the cold heavy whipping cream into a large mixing bowl.
Add the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract.
Beat using an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Refrigerate the frosting until ready to assemble the cake.
Step 6: Assemble the Cake
Place the first chocolate cake layer on a serving plate or cake stand.
Spread the creamy caramel filling evenly over the cake, leaving a small border around the edges.
Add a thin layer of chocolate whipped cream frosting over the caramel.
Carefully place the second chocolate cake layer on top.
Spread the remaining chocolate frosting evenly over the top and sides of the cake.
Step 7: Add the Toffee Crunch Topping
Sprinkle the crushed toffee candy pieces over the frosted cake.
Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips and optional chopped pecans.
Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top for a beautiful finish.
Refrigerate the cake for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
