Description
A rich and moist bread pudding soaked in a vanilla custard sauce. This comforting dessert is easy to make and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
cups brioche or white bread, cubed
3 cups whole milk
¾ cup brown sugar
4 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ cup raisins (optional)
2 tablespoons melted butter
Vanilla Sauce
1 cup whole milk
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup butter
1 egg yolk
1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
In a bowl, whisk together milk, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Add the bread cubes and let them soak for 10 minutes. Stir in raisins.
Pour the mixture into the prepared dish and drizzle with melted butter.
Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, until golden brown on top.
Preparing the Vanilla Sauce
In a saucepan, whisk together milk, brown sugar, butter, egg yolk, and flour.
Heat over medium, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Pour over warm bread pudding or serve on the side.
Notes
For extra indulgence, add chocolate chips or chopped nuts.
The bread pudding can be made a day ahead and reheated before serving.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
